Simon Bryant made excellent progress for Bristol Rovers in 2000-01 in what was generally a disappointing campaign for the club.

He featured regularly in the first team and netted his first senior goal with a spectacular 25-yard strike at Cambridge United in September.

Simon then went on to become the Pirates youngest-ever captain when he skippered the side in the final game of the season against Wrexham.

A combative midfield player, his efforts were rewarded by a call-up to the England Under-18 squad and he made his debut against the Faroe Islands.

Simon was made available for transfer by Bristol Rovers in May 2004.
