Leite, who is a Portugal Under-21 and B international, joined Charlton Athletic in August 2003 with a contract to the end of the 2003-04 season.

He had agreed to join Hull City in July 2004 but the move was postponed as he had to return to Portugal for family reasons. Leite subsequently joined the Tigers in July 2005 with a one-year contract.
