A former Scottish Under-18 and Under-21 international who has made over 200 appearances for Oldham Athletic, Scott missed the start of the 2000-01 season after suffering a fractured cheekbone during the summer break but quickly returned to the side and rarely missed a game for the remainder of the campaign.
A commanding defender with great stamina, he is the son of former Bradford City star David McNiven.
Scott joined Mansfield Town in July 2004 with a one-year contract.
He later played alongside his twin brother David at Morecambe.
