Jones joined Bristol Rovers on loan shortly before the start of the 2000-01 campaign and made an impressive debut in the opening game against Bournemouth. He signed permanently shortly afterwards and settled in well with the Pirates, featuring regularly during the season and contributing some vital goals. A versatile left-sided defender he has good distribution and is a constant danger when joining the attack at set pieces.
Jones went on the Bristol Rovers transfer list in March 2002 and soon agreed a loan deal with York City before concluding a permanent move to Bootham Crescent in the summer.
Jones's contract with York City was cancelled by mutual consent in September 2003.
