Renowned for his prodigiously long thrown-ins, Sam was one of football's great names of the 1930s. A FA Cup Final winner for Newcastle against Arsenal in 1932, he loyally stayed with the Magpies when they fell in to Second Division in 1933. A tremendously powerful wing half.
England international and ex-Newcastle United Sam Weaver was Chelsea's regular left half for the three seasons prior to World War Two.
