Burton-Godwin had a roller coaster of a season at Port Vale in 2000-01.
He suffered a loss of form in the autumn and also had some disciplinary problems resulting in a lengthy lay off.
However he returned to the first team in February and looked a completely different player, proving a colossus in defence as Vale kept six successive clean sheets and went on a run of only one defeat in 21 games.
He featured in the LDV Vans Trophy final victory over Brentford in April and finished the campaign strongly.
Burton-Godwin is a powerful central defender who is good in the air and uses his physical strength to good effect.
Following his release by Port Vale, Burton-Godwin joined Crewe Alexandra in August 2002 on a month-to-month contract but soon accepted an offer from Second Division rivals Peterborough United for the remainer of the 2002-03 season.
This was later extended to June 2006.
Burton-Godwin joined Shrewsbury Town in January 2006 with a contract to June 2007.
