Having concluded the 1999-2000 season on a high with his first-ever senior goal, Ryan found himself further down in the pecking order of strikers at Oldham Athletic in 2000-01 following the arrival of Carlo Corrazin and the improvement in form of Matthew Tipton and Craig Dudley.
He found first-team opportunities very much at a premium and, after making just two starts, he joined Nigel Clough's Burton Albion on loan at the end of March where he scored eight goals in 10 games for the championship-chasing Dr Martens League outfit.
He is a tall striker with a good eye for goal.
