This tiny midfield dynamo had a trial period at Clyde at the beginning of last season before David Webb signed him for Third Division Southend last November. One of the smallest players in the Football League, he endeared himself to the Blues fans with a series of all-action displays. Quick and light on his feet, Russell tackled ferociously and supported his forwards with some deep runs that brought him goals in the two FA Cup matches against Torquay United.
