Having recovered from the knee injury he suffered during the 1999-2000 and put his well-publicised off the field problems behind him, Ross struggled to break into the Oxford United first-team squad in 2000-01. He made just one senior appearance featuring at right back against Bournemouth on Boxing Day before moving on to Conference club Boston United early in the new year. A versatile young defender who can also play at centre back he is the younger brother of Simon Weatherstone.

Ross was made available for transfer by Boston United in October 2002. He joined Nuneaton Borough in March 2003 with a contract to the end of the season.
