A former captain of the Coventry City youth team, Robert spent much of 2000-01 in the reserves before moving on loan to Plymouth Argyle to gain further experience of first-team football. He played in three senior games and one from the subs' bench for the Third Division club producing some impressive displays before returning to Highfield Road where he made a further senior appearance when he came off the subs' bench for the last ten minutes of the final game against Bradford City.
A tenacious young midfield player he is the grandson of former Manchester United wing half Maurice Setters.
Robert briefly joined Rochdale in August 2003 on non-contract terms before signing for Kidderminster Harriers on a one-year contract. However, this was cancelled in March 2004.
