Painter struggled to win a regular place in the Halifax Town line-up last season when he was also affected by one or two niggling injuries. He featured only intermittently during the campaign and then was often used from the subs bench. A right-sided striker with considerable experience in the lower divisions he was released by the Shaymen in May.
