Whenever he was selected he showed himself to be as effective as ever and produced a particularly fine performance when partnering debutant Stephen Broad at champions Chesterfield, the pair helping the Blues to earn a 1-1 draw.

Rob was the Shrimpers manager from 9 October 2001 to 25 March 2003.

Whilst assistant manager at AFC Bournemouth, at the age of 43, Rob was registered as a player on a non-contract basis in September 2007 due to an injury crisis.
