Having developed through the ranks at Wimbledon, Rob Gier made his Football League debut from the subs' bench in the 4-0 win at Crewe Alexandra in October 2000 and went on to enjoy a short run in the first team before dropping back into the reserves.
He returned again at the very end of the season.
Once he had settled down he produced some fine performances in the heart of the defence and, although he still had a lot to learn, he could be pleased with his progress in 2000-01.
As a promising young central defender, he was an assured performer and had the confidence to run the ball out of defence.
Rob qualified to play for the Philippines as his mother was born there.
