Edwards joined Chesterfield in September 2000 and his arrival galvanised the Spireites charge to the top of the Third Division table. A wide left-sided player who is at home in the defence or midfield, he tackles clinically, has a good turn of pace and the ability to pick out forwards with seductive crosses. Edwards got forward to score important goals, but his enjoyment was most evident when tormenting opposition defenders to set up chances for others.
Edwards returned to Huddersfield Town in July 2003 on a one-year contract. He agreed a further year's deal in June 2004.
