Shaw looked as if he would face a major challenge to win a place in Coventry City's back four at the start of the 2000-01 season.
However after one game out he was back in the side and enjoyed a decent run in the line-up before being dropped in November, firstly in favour of Mo Konjic and later Gary Breen.
He returned to the side in February and put in several polished performances during the run-in, although he was unable to prevent the Sky Blues from being relegated to the First Division.
A player who never gives less than 100 per cent, he remained the best man-to-man marker at Highfield Road but had now played over 200 games for the club without scoring a goal.
Shaw signed a new one-year contract at Coventry City in June 2004 when he was also appointed the club's reserve team coach. His contract was extended to June 2006 in June 2005.
Shaw's contract at Millwall was extended to June 2008 in May 2007.
