Rufus had a superb season in the heart of the Charlton Athletic defence in 2000-01 to look very much the finished article. Strong and determined in the tackle, he is extremely quick, calm under pressure and provides a commanding presence in the air. He reads the game well and his distribution has improved beyond recognition.
He likes to move forward at set pieces and corners and scored an opportunist goal at Coventry City to help the Addicks earn a share of the points. He was deservedly voted as Athletic's 'Player of the Season' for the second year in a row.
Rufus announced his retirement due to a knee injury in June 2004.
