A key member of West Ham United's 1998-99 FA Youth Cup winning side when he had scored in every round of the tournament, Richard joined Leyton Orient on a three-month loan deal at the start of 2000-01 to gain experience of first-team football.
He was a regular in the Os' line-up and had just agreed to stay at Brisbane Road for the remainder of the season when he had the misfortune to injure a cruciate knee ligament in the game at Cheltenham Town and this kept him out of action until the summer.
A promising young midfielder who has represented Australia at Under-17 level he was a prolific scorer for the Hammers' junior teams.
Richard joined Hull City in July 2007 with a three-year contract.
His Tigers contract was extended to June 2012 in January 2012.
