This experienced Southampton central defender spent two months on loan at Second Division Northampton Town in the autumn of 2000.
The Cobblers kept a clean sheet in his first three games but he then missed several matches through injury and eventually returned to The Dell before going out on loan again, this time to Swindon Town.
Although he got off to an unfortunate start by heading an own goal in the opening minutes of his debut, he was effective in shoring up a leaky defence before moving on to assist relegation-threatened Luton Town on a short-term contract in February.
Brought in to replace Adrian Whitbread when he returned to Portsmouth, Richard added some much needed stability to the back line but was unable to prevent the club dropping into the Third Division.
A commanding left-sided central defender, he is effective in the tackle and has good distribution.
