Butcher, who was previously on schoolboy terms at Northampton Town, extended his Lincoln City contract in August 2003 up to June 2005.
He then joined Oldham Athletic with a two-year contract.
Butcher was made available for transfer by Peterborough United in May 2007.
In July 2007, he joined Notts County with a two-year contract.
Butcher returned to Lincoln City in July 2009 with a two-year contract but was made available for transfer in December 2009 before it was cancelled in May 2010.
He then joined Macclesfield Town with a two-year contract.
