A versatile defender, after only three appearances for Arsenal, Rhys was snapped up by Cardiff City for £300,000 and has since gone on to win full Wales international honours.
After developing with Arsenal reserves, Rhys made the starting line-up for the Worthington Cup Third Round tie against Ipswich Town before Sam Hammam came in to sign him for Cardiff City.
Rhys had something of a mixed season at Ninian Park showing moments of real quality at times but seeming to lose concentration on other occasions.
A versatile player who appeared for the Bluebirds in defence, at wing back and in midfield, he can generally feel satisfied with his first campaign of regular senior football which ended with the club winning promotion from the Third Division.
He also appeared regularly for the Wales Under-21 team during the season winning four more caps.
Rhys joined Port Vale in February 2007 with a contract to the end of the season.
His contract at Walsall was extended to June 2010 in March 2008.
