PositionMidfielder

Fortune left South Africa for England when he was fourteen and was signed by Tottenham Hotspur where he stayed for several seasons, playing for the youth side.

He was released and joined Real Mallorca in Spain for the 1995-96 season.

He left halfway through the season joining Atletico Madrid.

He failed to gain a regular place and found himself playing in their B side when South Africa called him up for his international debut in September 1996 against Kenya.

His performances on the left side of midfield made him a target for Manchester United for whom he signed in August 1999 for £1.5 million.

He was used as cover for Ryan Giggs. A pacy winger with a good cross, he remained a regular for South Africa.

Fortune held his nerve at the end of South Africa's first game to convert the first penalty at the 2002 World Cup finals to record his first goal in international football and earn a last gasp point in a 2-2 draw with Paraguay.

A useful squad player who can play a variety of positions on the left side. Aggressive and constructive with an eye for goal.

Fortune joined Bolton Wanderers in July 2006 in a one-year deal.
