Njanka is a left-sided defender who broke into the Cameroon squad shortly before the 1998 World Cup finals. He produced one of the few highlights for the Indomitable Lions in France when, following a 50 yard run, he scored a spectacular goal against Austria. He went on to gain an African Nations Cup winners medal in 2000 and appeared in nine of his country's qualifying games for Japan and South Korea. At club level he spent a season in Switzerland with Neuchatel Xamax before joining Strasbourg where he was a member of the team that defeated Sedan to win the French Cup in 2001. His hopes of joining Portsmouth in a September 2001 loan deal were cut short when suffered a knee injury.
