With Liverpool he was a 1st Division Championship winner in 1973, 1976, 1977, 1979, 1980, 1982 and 1983, FA Cup winner in 1974, League Cup winner in 1981, 1982 and runner-up in 1978, European Cup winner in 1978 and 1981 and UEFA Cup winner in 1976., Phil Thompson rejoined Liverpool as reserve team coach and later as assistant to Gerard Houllier.
