Republic of Ireland international who had been with Wrexham for over a decade and notched up some 450 appearances before joining Port Vale in the summer of 2001. This experienced Wrexham left back endured a frustrating 2000-01 season missing long spells with a series of injuries. After knee surgery in the summer he did not return to fitness until last November, but soon afterwards further knee problems put him out of action until February and then after just one game he tore a calf muscle. It was not until the final weeks of the campaign that he saw regular first-team action. At his best Phil is a consistent defender who is quick in the tackle and rarely gives his opponent much room. Phil went on the transfer list at Vale Park in November 2001 then released at the end of the season.
