From being a perfectly adequate full back, Peter was switched to the role of midfield ball-winner at the start of the memorable 1970-71 double-winning season. A shy, unassuming character off the field, it was a different Storey in the heat of battle when he was feared and respected in equal quantities. He could not have survived at the highest level without other attributes and his ability to pick out a telling pass had few peers. The winner of 19 England caps, Peter made 501 appearances for the Gunners having made his debut in 1965.
With Arsenal, 1st Division Champion and FA Cup winner 1971, FA Cup runner-up 1972, European Fairs Cup winner 1970.
Hard man Peter Storey was described by George Best as his toughest opponent. After retirement, he went on to manage a brothel, steal cars, import pornography and plot a counterfeit gold coin scam.
