The Blackburn Rovers defender joined Halifax Town in a long-term loan deal in October 2000 and featured regularly for the Third Division club for the remainder of the season.
An accomplished left-sided player, he looked particularly impressive when pushing forward and scored his first-ever Football League goal with a superb free kick in the 3-2 win over Kidderminster Harriers in January.
Previously capped by the Republic of Ireland at Under-18 level.
Peter signed a new three-year contract with Carlisle United in July 2003 that was extended to June 2007 in June 2005 then to June 2009 in July 2007 to June 2011 in January 2009, to June 2012 in July 2011 and to June 2013 in July 2012.
