Madsen was the only member of the Denmark's 2002 World Cup squad who played for the country's new champions, Brøndby. Favourably compared to Rangers' Michael Mols, reports suggested he would soon follow Madsen Lovenkrands to Ibrox or Niclas Jensen to Manchester City. Germany's Werder Breman were also said to be keeping a keen eye on his performances in Japan and South Korea.
Allied to his ability on the ball, Madsen gives opposition defences problems with his speed and mobility.
