Having completed his club season in fine style with a last minute winner in the Scottish FA Cup Final against Celtic, Peter was aiming to enhance his growing reputation in Japan and South Korea.
Dick Advocaat recruited him for Rangers in a £1.5million deal from AB Copenhagen in July 2000.
Quick and resilient, he has been described by the great Brian Laudrup as a star of the future, and is reported to have interested Real Madrid and Barcelona.
Peter joined Newcastle United in January 2009 with a contract to the end of the season that was extended to June 2012 in September 2009.
Peter's winning goal at Queens Park Rangers on the final day of the 2009-10 season took Newcastle United's Championship-winning tally through the 100-points mark.
He joined Birmingham City in July 2012 with a two-year contract.
