Kennedy missed the start of the 2000-01 season due to an Achilles tendon problem and then suffered a heel injury that required corrective surgery. He returned to first-team action for Watford in December, and immediately gave the team a more balanced look with his cultured left foot prompting from the centre of the park. A left-sided midfield player who is an expert at delivering free kicks and corners his return to fitness also led to a recall to the Northern Ireland squad.
Kennedy joined Peterborough United in July 2004 with a three-year contract but was made available for transfer in October 2005.
