A former Scotland Under-21 international, after missing all of the 1999-2000 campaign with a serious ankle injury, Peter Handyside made a successful return to action with Grimsby Town in September 2000.
He showed that he had lost none of his class but struggled to retain his place following the arrival of Zhang Enhua and it was only when the Chinese international departed that he was able to resume as a first choice in the Mariners's line-up.
Peter was a formidable central defender who brought the ball out of defence with confidence and showed excellent distribution.
