Full name is: Paulo Jorge Gomes Bento
Paulo Bento began his career at second division Estrela Amadora in 1989.
He had a spell at Vitoria Guimaraes before joining Benfica in 1994.
He made his international debut in January 1992 against Spain and, despite being a member of the 1996 and 2000 European Championship Finals squads, he could not become a regular team member.
At club level, he left Benfica to play in Spain for Real Oviedo in 1996 and returned to Portugal to play for Sporting Lisbon in 2000.
He is a hard working midfielder with excellent technique, who allows the other more creative members of the team to play.
