This experienced central midfield player once again captained Brighton in 2000-01 and had the distinction of leading the Seagulls to the Third Division title. A near ever-present alongside Richard Carpenter and Charlie Oatway he was able to get forward more last season and contributed some spectacular goals, notably in the away victories at Blackpool and Hull. A steady influence on the team as a whole, Paul gains respect from his team-mates by use of a quiet word rather than shouting.
Paul announced his retirement in May 2003 and joined the Seagulls commercial staff.
