Raven linked up with his old boss Alan Buckley at Grimsby Town in July 2000 and featured regularly for the Mariners in the opening matches of 2000-01.
His first team opportunities were subsequently limited by the return to fitness of Peter Handyside, the on-loan signing of Zhang Enhua and some niggling injuries.
Raven is a reliable central defender who is effective both in the air and on the ground.
He joined Carlisle United in February 2003 with a contract to the end of the season before agreeing a two-year deal in May 2003.
