After a loan spell, Paul joined Blackpool in July 2007 with a two-year contract that was extended to June 2011 in April 2009.

He joined Leeds United in July 2011 with a two-year contract but was made available for transfer in May 2012.

Paul joined Oldham Athletic in September 2013 with a contract to January 2014 that was then extended to June 2014 and to June 2015 in June 2014 before it was cancelled in February 2015.

He joined Crewe Alexandra in February 2015 with a contract to June 2015.

Paul joined Bolton Wanderers in September 2015 with a one-year contract.

He joined Bury in August 2016 with a one-year contract.
