McLaren made some 200 appearances for Luton Town after joining them from trainee.
He was released at the end of the 2000-01 season and joined Sheffield Wednesday on a Bosman free.
McLaren joined Rotherham United in July 2004 with a two-year contract.
He joined Tranmere Rovers in July 2006 in a two-year deal.
McLaren joined Bradford City in July 2008 with a two-year contract before returning to Tranmere Rovers in July 2009 in a two-year deal that was cancelled in November 2010.
He joined Oxford United in December 2010 with a contract to June 2011.
