After bursting on the scene at Oldham Athletic in the second half of the 1999-2000 campaign, Paul had a very frustrating time in 2000-01.
His progress was impeded when a fractured cheekbone ruled him out for several weeks, and then a 70-minute appearance at Oxford United in early December proved to be his final contribution as he was struck by problems with shin splints soon afterwards.
Although he underwent corrective surgery in May 2001, Paul announced his reirement from senior football in July 2002.
