This promising young striker, who joined Notts County from Newtown in County Wicklow, continued to develop at reserve level in 2000-01, stepping up to make appearances from the subs bench for the first team on two occasions.

Very quick and with a great eye for goal, when he scored four against Stockport County on 21 February 2004, Paul became the first Notts County player to score four goals in a league game since Jimmy Jackson against West Ham United on New Years Day 1955.

With County relegated to Division Three, he rejected the offer of a new contract at Meadow Lane in April 2004 and joined Bristol City in a three-year deal.

Paul joined Doncaster Rovers in June 2005 with a contract to June 2008 that was extended to June 2010 in February 2007.
