Date of birth17 July 1977
Place of birthBarnsley
NationalityEnglish
Weight76 kg
Height1.80 m
PositionDefender/Left back

Paul Heckingbottom appeared in the first dozen games of 2000-01 in his customary left-back spot for Darlington, but went down with a strained groin in the first leg of the Worthington Cup tie with Bradford City and was forced to rest.

He returned two months later, perhaps too soon, and although he had occasional outings through to February, he was forced into another period of inactivity that lasted until the end of the season.

He remains a strong-tackling defender capable of penetrating runs down the flank.

Paul joined Bradford City in July 2003 in a two-year deal but, due to the club's financial problems, moved on to Sheffield Wednesday in May 2004 with a two-year contract.

After a loan spell, Paul joined Bradford City in January 2008 with a contract to June 2009.
