Combative in the air and strong in the tackle, Paul was one of the most under-rated central defenders in the Premiership and his re-signing in the summer of 2000 was good news for Coventry City.
Despite the potentially stiff competition from Colin Hendry and Mo Konjic, Paul started the campaign as first choice centre-half playing alongside firstly Hendry (for one game), then Richard Shaw and later Konjic.
Suspensions then cost him his place in the squad and he eventually lost out to the outstanding Gary Breen.
