With the wealth of strikers at Stoke City manager Gudjon Thordarson's disposal, Paul's chances at the Britannia Stadium were limited to a handful of outings, mostly from the subs' bench.
In November 2000, he went out on loan to Second Division rivals Cambridge United where his arrival lifted the team.
He showed an excellent eye for goal, netting five times for the Us before returning to the Potteries.
Rochdale manager Steve Parkin then signed him for a club record fee in a bid to boost his attack and came up trumps.
Paul was an immediate hit at Spotland, scoring ten times in 14 games including a hat-trick in the 6-0 win over Halifax Town.
He is a promising young striker who makes intelligent runs and is a strong finisher.
Paul joined Leyton Orient in January 2006 with a contract to June 2008.
He joined Lincoln City in July 2009 with a one-year contract that was cancelled in May 2010.
Paul joined Mansfield Town in July 2010 with a one-year contract.
