Connolly made his Football League debut for Plymouth Argyle in the final game of the 2000-01 season when he came off the subs bench to replace David Friio for the last twenty minutes of the game against Rochdale.
He then proceeded to give an accomplished performance at right back helping the Argyle defence to secure a clean sheet.
Connolly's contract at Plymouth was extended to June 2007 in April 2004, then to June 2008 in November 2006.
He joined Leeds United in July 2010 with a three-year contract but was made available for transfer in May 2012.
Connolly joined Millwall in September 2013 with a contract to January 2014.
He joined Crawley Town in February 2014 with a contract to June 2014.
Connolly joined Luton Town in July 2014 with a one-year contract that was cancelled in April 2015.
