PositionDefender/Right back

This experienced right back joined Sunderland on loan in March 2001 as a replacement for Chris Makin who had just been sold to Ipswich Town.

Thrust immediately into action, Patrice set about winning himself a contract for the 2001-02 season with a series of dazzling displays down the right-hand side, regularly linking up with the midfield and attack, and popping up in goalscoring positions on a number of occasions.

Indeed, he scored his first Premiership goal in such circumstances, rounding off a typical run against Newcastle United with a superb finish.

With his loan spell over at the end of the season however, Sunderland boss Peter Reid did not pursue a permanent deal.
