Sarr is a reliable midfield player who developed with St Etienne where he was a member of the team that won promotion to the French First Division in 1998-99. He subsequently joined Lens in the 2001 close season, linking up with his international colleagues Ferdinand Coly and El Hadji Diouf. He was a member of the Lions squad for the 2000 African Nations Cup and featured regularly in the second round stage of the campaign to qualify for the 2002 World Cup finals. He is key to the team with most of the play in midfield directed through him. He possesses the ability to work tirelessly, with great distribution skills and a good tackle. He also manages to score goals, being a significant danger from set pieces. He could only watch the African Nations Cup Final in 2002 from the stands after being sent off in the semi final against Nigeria.
