A former great hope of Turkish football he was a prominent member of the side which won the European under 18 title in 1992. He began his career at Galatasary where he was a product of the youth system making his debut as a teenager, and soon after forcing his way into the full national side making his debut in October 1992 against San Marino. A broken leg suffered in February 1993 in a Turkish Cup semi final halted his progress and he has not been the same player since. He made his way back into the Galatasaray team but did not appear for the national side again until April 1998. He made the 2000 European Championship Finals squad and looked to have recovered the form he showed as a teenager. He was switched to play on the right hand side of midfield by Galatasaray coach Fatih Terim and this is where he now plays for the national side. He moved to Inter Milan in the summer of 2001 but has failed to become a regular team member. He is a good attacking option on the right wing and can defend.
