Spackman, a hard working and intelligent midfielder, was ever-present as Chelsea won the 2nd Division Championship in 1984. He moved on to Liverpool where, whilst plagued by injury, he was a winner of the 1st Division Championship in 1988, FA Cup runner-up in 1988 and League Cup runner-up in 1987. After spells at Queens Park Rangers and Glasgow Rangers he returned to Chelsea in September 1992.
