Forster had the misfortune to suffer torn knee ligaments playing in a pre-season friendly for Reading against Charlton Athletic and it was only towards the very end of 2000-01 that he recovered sufficiently to take his place on the subs bench.

He was particularly effective in the home leg of the Play-Off Semi-Final against Wigan Athletic when he turned the game, setting up Martin Butler for the equaliser and winning the penalty which he put in from the rebound after Jamie Cureton's kick was saved.

Forster joined Ipswich Town in July 2005 with a two-year contract.

He joined Hull City in August 2006 with a two-year contract.

Forster returned to Brentford in July 2010 with a one-year contract.
