This tall Sunderland winger made his only appearance of the 2000-01 season for the Black Cats against Luton Town in a 3-0 Worthington Cup victory in September before joining Halifax Town on loan the following month.
He made his debut for the Shaymen against Hull City and impressed in a three-month spell with the Third Division club, creating numerous opportunities with his tricky wing play.
He returned to the Stadium of Light in January to continue his development in the reserves.
Neil was made available for transfer by Darlington in November 2004.
He joined Morecambe in July 2008 with a two-year contract that was extended to June 2011 in April 2010.
