After making just a handful of appearances for Southend United at the start of the 2000-01 season Neil was struck down with pelvic trouble. The problem required surgery to insert a pin into his stomach to prevent the pelvic bone moving and it was not until March that he returned to serious training. Neil is a tall striker who is quick off the mark and effective in the air.
