Having joined Tottenham Hotspur in the 2000 close season, Neil quickly established himself as the number one keeper at White Hart Lane and missed only three Premiership matches all season.
He was in outstanding form and while it is difficult to single out any one performance, perhaps his finest display was in the 1-1 draw at home to Arsenal in December.
With amazing ability at close range, Neil stands big and seems to dwarf the goal, yet has superb agility in the air.
His anticipation and quick mind have ensured his place for Scotland at international level.
A total of 13 clean sheets proved his quality and his ability to settle into his new team was evident from day one.
Neil was rewarded for an outstanding 2000-01 season when the club's supporters voted him as the Player of the Season.
Neil joined Leeds United in July 2004 with a two-year contract.
His contract at Doncaster Rovers was extended to June 2011 in May 2009, to June 2012 in July 2011 and to June 2013 in October 2011.
