Smith had a short run in the Reading first team in the middle part of 2000-01, and headed an equaliser against Bristol Rovers on Boxing Day, but once Jamie Harper was signed it was clear his chances would be limited.
Otherwise, he appeared regularly for the Royals' successful reserve team and featured in the side that was narrowly defeated by Norwich City in the Avon Insurance Combination Cup Final.
An experienced defensive midfield player who is strong in the tackle and works hard.
